I have spent a good while now hammering out the finer details of the plot for the story that I have been creating. I want to create a trend forecasting/ visual inspirations book, using fashion illustration as the main visual. In order to do this I felt that I should create a narrative that expresses my concept, allowing me to draw scenes and scenarios from the plot, and then add in elements of fashion illustration. The end outcome should have a sense of narrative while also being a source of visual inspiration for other creatives. The plot centres around a group of revolutionaries, who live in a future world wherein a dictatorship regime (the Conopoeum Corporation) monitors and restricts every aspect of a citizen's life. As the plot progresses, characters are killed, betrayed and ultimately come to realise that the very revolution that they have been participating in, has in fact been constructed by the Corporation as a means to create public fear and ultimately manipulate the general masses into supporting the dystopian vision that the Corporation has created. The undermining concept for the plot is to express the idea that the world in which we live is manufactured completely as a means to control and perpetuate the power of the governing party. Revolution is fabricated. It is used as a means of fooling the enslaved into believeing that they have freedom, and guiding them into buying into something that is no less manufactured than every other aspect of a life under absolute surveillance. The revolution will play only into the hands of the oppressors. There will be no happy ending for the everyday man. |
